Passing, Shooting, and Playing Defence

Passing

Passing in UFL forms the core part of any attack. To pass, simply press the pass button (PS5 -\ XBOX - A) and indicate the direction of the footballer you’d like to pass to. A harder press results in a longer pass, so if you’re passing to a footballer on the other side of the pitch, you need to press it harder than if your target is right next to the ball.

A lofted pass is an aerial delivery that can soar over the heads of the defenders. To perform a lofted pass, press the lofted pass button (PS5 -\ XBOX - X). As with normal passing, a lofted pass will travel farther if you press the button harder. To send a high lofted pass, press the  L1 button on PS 5 or LB on XBOX in combination with the lofted pass button (PS5 -\ XBOX - X). A higher lofted pass is harder for the other team to intercept.

Use combination of L1+on PS5 and LB+Y on XBOX to send a lofted pass as high as possible. By pressing L1+on PS5 and LB+Y on XBOX you can also send a ball in a high arch, as if it was a flick-on, so the ball lands in front of a teammate and allows him to start an overlap.

The third type of pass is the through ball. Instead of being targeted directly at a stationary footballer, through balls target footballers who are already running—they’re aimed to where the target footballer will be, not where they currently are. To shoot a through ball, press the through ball button (PS5 -\ XBOX - Y). As with the other types of passes, a harder button press will result in a longer pass.

To perform an overlap pass, press L1+ on PS5 and LB+A on XBOX. Your footballer will run around and past the footballer with the ball. To perform this combination faster with a through ball, make sure your footballer is running. This only works with passes along the ground.

All passes’ power levels can be adjusted with the modifier button(PS5 - R1\ XBOX - RB)

Shooting

Press the (PS5 -\ XBOX - B) to send a straightforward shot at the goal. The harder you press the shoot button, the more powerful the shot will be. Select the direction of a shot with the left stick.

To perform a skilled shot, press R1+on PS5 and RB+B on XBOX. A skilled shot is a shot with a curving trajectory, making it harder to block.

By pressing L1+on PS5 and LB+B on XBOX, you can perform a panenka lobbed shot, a high and short shot that has a chance of going above the defenders’ heads. This shot is especially useful when a goalkeeper is rushing out, allowing you to chip the ball over his head and (hopefully) into the goal.

Trick shots

We built some extra shots in to increase player immersion. These shots, while less precise than normal shots, are full of skill and finesse and intended for those who appreciate the beauty of the game.

To send a strong, low shot, press R1+L1+on PS5 and RB+LB+B on XBOX. These shots are very powerful but not particularly precise.

A measured shot is another relatively imprecise shot that seeks to rise over the defenders’ heads (PS5 - R2 +\ XBOX - LT+B)

Call for a teammate

To call for a teammate, hold R1+ L on PS5 and RB + L on XBOX. This creates a cone towards the target footballer, sending him running to wait for your pass at the indicated spot. This helps you guide your teammates and help perform attacks more quickly.

If you want your teammate to stay closer rather than go out for a pass, press L1+L on PS5 and LB+L on XBOX. This causes him to run toward his teammate in possession, allowing you to pass.

Defence

When you're defending, the same controls are used as during an attack, but they control completely different actions because now your team doesn't have the ball.

Tackling

Press on PS5 and B on XBOX to initiate an active tackle when you are close to an opponent in possession. Your footballer will make a lunge toward the nearby opponent in possession, attempting to take the ball. If a tackle isn't successful, you will lose control over your footballer for a while.

Passive tackling works without pressing any extra buttons. Just run up very close to the opponent in possession and your player will attempt to gain control of the ball.

To approach an opponent in possession carefully, hold L2 on PS5 and LT on XBOX  and continue to follow them. This causes your footballer to shadow that opponent until you see an opportunity to take the ball with an active tackle or passive tackle

To perform a sliding tackle, press on PS5 and X on XBOX and indicate the direction of the slide with the left control stick. Be careful, though: sliding tackles can often lead to yellow cards or red cards

Defensive teamwork

Press and hold R1 on PS5 and RB on XBOX to get a helping hand to contain an opposing footballer in possession. One of your teammates will guard him, but won’t take any active actions—this restricts your opponent’s free space and opens up opportunities for active tackles and passive tackles.
